As an agronomist from Australia, Tony Rinaudo has been instrumental in tackling deforestation and desertification, beginning his efforts in Africa’s Sahel region. Rinaudo developed the concept of farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR) while living in Niger Republic in the 1980’s. Rinaudo and the FMNR technique have benefited millions of livelihoods. Bringing life and sustainability back to these vital ecosystems while renewing livelihoods, fostering hope and promoting peace. “Diverting the wasted energy going into conflict and directing it towards a winnable war against land degradation, bringing restoration, peace and prosperity.”
